Household appliance power cords can be classified into the following categories based on their construction, materials, and intended applications, catering to different power ratings and usage scenarios.
I. By Structure and Purpose
BV wire: solid-core rigid wire with PVC insulation, used for fixed in-wall wiring such as lighting and outlets.
BVR wire: stranded flexible wire with PVC insulation, suitable for applications involving frequent bending, such as high-power appliances like air conditioners and water heaters.
RVV cable: multi-core flexible sheathed cable with PVC insulation and jacket, offering excellent flexibility; used in small household appliances and power strips.
BVVB cable: a flat‑shaped sheathed cable that can be installed openly; used for lighting and small household appliances.
Shielded cable (RVVP): Based on RVV, it incorporates a metallic shield to enhance interference resistance and is used in audio systems and precision equipment.
II. By Insulation Material
PVC wire: the most common type, corrosion-resistant and flame-retardant, low-cost, and used for standard household appliances.
Silicone wire: high-temperature resistant (200°C+), non-toxic, and suitable for use in high-temperature appliances such as ovens and rice cookers.
TPE wire: environmentally friendly, highly elastic, recyclable, and used in high-end home appliances and children’s electrical devices.
PE wire: Cold‑resistant and high‑voltage‑rated, suitable for outdoor use and household appliances in cold climates.
III. By Plug Type
Two-core cable: No ground wire; used for low-power appliances such as table lamps and fans.
Three-core cable: with a grounding wire, safe and reliable, used for medium- to high-power appliances such as refrigerators, washing machines, and air conditioners.
IV. By Power Rating
Low power (≤1000 W): 0.75 mm² wire, such as for chargers and small household appliances.
Medium power (1000–2000 W): 1.0–1.5 mm² wire, such as for electric kettles and hair dryers.
High-power applications (≥2000 W): wires of 2.5 mm² or larger, such as air conditioners, induction cookers, and water heaters.
