A power cord is a wire used to transmit electrical current. Typically, current is transmitted in a point-to-point manner. Outer sheath
The outer jacket, also known as the protective sheath, is the outermost layer of a power cable. It serves to safeguard the cable and boasts robust properties, including high‑temperature and low‑temperature resistance, resistance to natural light exposure, excellent flexibility, an extended service life, and environmentally friendly materials.
Inner sheath
The inner jacket, also known as the insulation jacket, is an indispensable intermediate layer in power cables. As its name suggests, its primary function is insulation, ensuring the safe transmission of electrical current and preventing any leakage between the copper conductors and the surrounding air. Moreover, the material of the insulation jacket must be flexible to ensure it can be securely embedded within the cable’s core layers.
Copper wire
Copper wire is the core component of a power cord; it primarily serves as the conduit for electric current and voltage. The density of the copper wire directly affects the cord’s quality. The materials used in the power cord are also a critical factor in ensuring quality, and the number of copper strands as well as their flexibility are additional considerations.
Inner sheath
The inner jacket is a layer of material that encases the cable between the shielding layer and the conductor core, typically made of polyvinyl chloride or polyethylene. Low-smoke, halogen-free materials are also used. It is applied in accordance with process specifications to prevent the insulation from coming into contact with water, air, or other substances, thereby protecting the insulation from moisture and safeguarding it against mechanical damage.
